The Kangaroo

A tragic story with a happy ending. Riding on a side road very early from Grafton to Coffs Harbour I came across this kangaroo in the ditch. He was struck by a car and left with a broken back leg. as I got closer he shook violently and tried to crawl away but could not move.
I have seen a lot of people in accidents struck by cars but animals to me are very emotional. The speed here was an obnoxious 100 kph and cars just zipped past this poor guy. I crushed a can gave him some water. Luckily i had a cell signal called Gypsy in Grafton and had her look up animal rescue with my GPS location and they were there in a hour. I have saved a few lives in my job but never a kangaroo.I was overjoyed. After seeing so many dead kangaroos I was just so happy to help one live.

                   My Journey

I am a fire captain and cancer survivor.
I have now cycled around  the earth  by bicycle for cancer charity, but my journey is not over. I followed the rules of Guinness global 0circumnavigation. Same bike, same direction, cross two antipodal points, the equator and cover at least 29,000 km.  My final legs were crossing Australia north to south and east to west across the deserts bringing the total countries crossed to fifteen and a distance of 29,000 km over 10 years. The journey now continues to the most desolate and highest points of the earth.  email:
