Buddy

This was my dog Buddy. He died of cancer five years ago today.

He was pulled out of a garbage bin where he was left to die, as a newborn puppy. I gave him a wonderful happy 14 year life. He loved steak, pork, poodles, chasing squirrels, camping and chasing Rudy on his bike, and tight places like drainage pipes. He certainly would have enlisted to train to be an Urban Search and Rescue dog so he could work with his master in the Fire Department.
An interesting thing is of the thousands of medical emegencies I attented in my career, many I forgot. But I never forgot any of the calls we had for animals, or the injured ones people dropped at the fire station. Usually struck by cars, abandoned to die etc. I think I remember them because I felt bad we could not communicate with them we wanted to help, and they were trembling so afraid not knowing. I saw people drive by dying animals all the time as I toured the world on my bike. Never drive by an injured or hurt animal...ever!
