The Tasman Sea

The Southern most city in New Zealand and the closest major city on earth to Antarctica.
This is Bluff lighthouse near Invercargill.
Constant whistling westerly winds (The rouring forties) and clashing of the Tasman and Pacific Ocean just off the coast make this a stunning location to start a journey. Only 2400 km to cycle to Cape Reinga the northernmost point of New Zealand.
I gathered water and sand to pour into the ocean at my finishing point in one month. The weather yesterday here was constantly changing. Today is solidly horrid. Sheets or rain and howling Antarctic jet stream strength winds westerly to my side.

My Journey

I am a fire captain and cancer survivor.
I have now cycled around the earth by bicycle for cancer charity, but my journey is not over. I followed the rules of Guinness global 0circumnavigation. Same bike, same direction, cross two antipodal points, the equator and cover at least 29,000 km. My final legs were crossing Australia north to south and east to west across the deserts bringing the total countries crossed to fifteen and a distance of 29,000 km over 10 years. The journey now continues to the most desolate and highest points of the earth. email:
