The New Zealand Fire Service is proud to be hosting Canadian Firefighter and cancer survivor Rudy Pospisil while he cycles the length of the country raising funds for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.
Rudy is completing a circumnavigation of the earth and his travels now bring him here to NZ.
Rudy has already set a new world-record climb up the steepest street on Earth, Baldwin Street in Dunedin, in 3:49:24.
"It was the hardest physical thing I have done in my entire life, ever," said Rudy.
The Baldwin Street challenge will now be an annual cancer charity event.
You can read more about Rudy's journey at www.firefightercycle.com and in our upcoming edition of Ignite. http://www.fire.org.nz/Me…/Ignite-magazine/Pages/Ignite.html
Rudy is speaking at a number of locations throughout the country with entry by gold coin donation and all proceeds going to Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand.
Rudy's speaking dates and venues:
Rolleston Fire Station, 4 Chaucer St – December 4 – 7pm
NHQ, L12 80 The Terrace - December 9 - 12:30pm
Pukekohe Fire Station, Harris Street – December 16– 7pm

                   My Journey

I am a fire captain and cancer survivor.
I have now cycled around  the earth  by bicycle for cancer charity, but my journey is not over. I followed the rules of Guinness global 0circumnavigation. Same bike, same direction, cross two antipodal points, the equator and cover at least 29,000 km.  My final legs were crossing Australia north to south and east to west across the deserts bringing the total countries crossed to fifteen and a distance of 29,000 km over 10 years. The journey now continues to the most desolate and highest points of the earth.  email:
