Crossing the USA was a total of 5000 km from California to Florida and ten states. This was after cycling from Canada to Mexico previously. The maximum temperature was 52 C in the Sonoran desert and minimum 5 C in New Mexico. I raised money for the American Cancer Association and the Livestrong Foundation.
As you can see below Florida had several road blocks.
The mind is everything. You are confined only by the walls you build in your mind.
You are only afraid if you let fear enter your mind.
Fortunate to have has support from fellow police and firefighters from around the world. Below NYPD. Also San Francisco, Seattle , Los Angeles, Burnaby, Vancouver, Phoenix , San Diego etc.
In 2014 I started my jouney across Europe and my way around the world. At that time I followed a trail called the Camino de Santiago 800 km across Portugal and Spain to France. People from all over the world travel this centuries old sacred route to the Santiago de Compastella church. One day I will return to cycle Africa....likely Tangiers to Alexandria .
I will miss the free wine fountain on the Camino in Estella Spain that dispenses free wine or water. Some people sleep here ! A sign reads: You will be pleased to find this fountain provides the thirsty pilgrims with red wine and water. If you want to reach Santiago “full of strength and vitality, have a drink of this great wine and make a toast to happiness”
My New Years resolution is not to get cancer a third time.... . I plan to be so active in next year by mental and physical training for Everest in 2019 that cancer or any disease will not be able to keep up the pace. I will complete a full Ironman Triathlon this summer. With that training I will climb Mount Hood, Mount Kilimanjaro and possibly attempt Mount Blanc. I will carry the Canadian flag signed at my high school reunion , by firefighters and police officers and cancer patients around the world. It has come with me around the world and will do the triathlon with me summit all these peaks and finally rest on Everest. I will take pictures of all the names on the flag after you summit Everest with me. Climbing frozen Shannon Falls near Whistler below.
I hope you will plant a cedar tree for me if I die.
Happy New Year.
I cycled 29,000 km around the world. Mount Everest is 29,029 ft. I have been contacted by a company that followed my adventures and been invited to join an expedition that has a 100% success rate to climb Mount Everest in 2019. It would require one year of training, several other climbs ahead and 3 months to reach the summit. Of course I said .....YES.
So stay tuned here, the next time you see this peak I will be standing here! Like I said about all the other places I told you I would be standing and I always did!.
I have now officially cycled around the world, following the rules set out by the Guinness World Record people.
I have never been so proud to be a Canadian! I have crossed 18 countries covered over 29,000 km and used the same bike for the last 10 to complete my ultra marathon cycle. I set two world records during my journey that I am very proud of. I have saved almost 100 animals from the side of the road. I averaged 100 km per day burned around 5000 to 8000 calories per day. I was hit by cars twice, robbed , driven off the road several times bitten by several reptiles flies and insects run off the road by road trains had my cancer return when I was almost finished my journey, and cheated death more times than I ever want to remember.
My last leg in Australia I will have raised almost $50,000 thanks so much to the Melbourne firefighters. I have started annual fundraisers in 5 cities around the world. Sometimes I wonder how on earth did I live through it? . I feel the universe, the power in it that plans all our fates awarded me a chance to fulfill my destiny. Our flag I carried will fly all week on this tower in Melbourne then return to Canada to fly at City Hall In Vancouver .
Thank you everyone for believing in me. Thank you for believing I could do it. Thank you for supporting my cause to cure cancer. I never ever break a promise and I never ever give up until a cure is found or I die! Thats all I have to say about that. Up next: Mount Everest.

I am a man from British Columbia they dont even know. The support has been amazing. i think they know people from British Columbia and Firefighters are good people. I fly my Canadian flag with signatures of Canadians and cancer patients. What a great turnout by all the amazing Australian Volunteer Firefighters. At least a dozen crews were waiting at the sides of the highway on my way into the outback to chat and shake hands . I had a few good stories ready!!!. These amazing men and women do the job not for money (because they dont get paid)...but because they love to help others. I told the Commissioner this morning he must be proud of his volunteers and he confirmed he is!.I know these are the guys that will come to my aid and clean me off the road if anything happens to me. Each day now will be less and less people cars and trucks just a desert plain and nothing.
My Name is Rudy
I am a fire captain and cancer survivor.
