With all my Triathlon training I figure I would challenge myself. I am registered for the Alcatraz Shark Fest swim. I want to prove Clint Eastwood escaped from Alcatraz in the movie. Its only 1.50 miles but there are extreme currents and the water is 60 F. You only have 75 minutes. Only a few people have died and there are sharks but no attacks yet. I am so excited I will do my best. I will bring my Go Pro and Canadian Flag that I have carried around the world to wrap up in after or drape over my coffin after.......Giddy up.
I have been fortunate enough to have a thirty year career as a professional firefighter as well as a ten year journey around the world so amazing it will fill a book soon. I have heard terminally Ill that were soon to die make speeches with such courage they brought rooms full of people to tears. I have escaped from the bleak basement of the Cancer Agency twice. I have held peoples hands as they died, hugged their families after they lost loved ones, brought people back to life that were dead, crawled out of fires that I never thought I would escape from. I have helped others that I completely trusted, that made me broken false promises that turned around and then betrayed me. The Jaws of Life.
Today I swam whats called the marathon of swims. I completed the ironman triathlon required 2.4 miles in 90 minutes. Thats 50 minutes faster than the triathlon cut off time I need. I am so happy,150 laps of the pool. My Mt Everest Cardiologists medical altitude required heart stress test is in a few weeks so I should be ready.
The Australian girl lifeguarding told me if I wear a budgy smuggler and wax my chest hair next week, I could shave a few more minutes off my time. For those that dont know what a Budgy Smuggler is see attached pictures as to why a Speedo has that nickname in Australia
Its early March and I saw this track. Usually never before April would he rise. It means that hungry black bears are already slowly waking up. It means spring will come sooner. They stick their heads out bite some snow then go back in the den the first few waking days...... then finally they come out very hungry and ready to eat. Then I saw this bear and it surely means spring is coming.
Crossing the USA was a total of 5000 km from California to Florida and ten states. This was after cycling from Canada to Mexico previously. The maximum temperature was 52 C in the Sonoran desert and minimum 5 C in New Mexico. I raised money for the American Cancer Association and the Livestrong Foundation.
As you can see below Florida had several road blocks.
The mind is everything. You are confined only by the walls you build in your mind.
You are only afraid if you let fear enter your mind.
Fortunate to have has support from fellow police and firefighters from around the world. Below NYPD. Also San Francisco, Seattle , Los Angeles, Burnaby, Vancouver, Phoenix , San Diego etc.
In 2014 I started my jouney across Europe and my way around the world. At that time I followed a trail called the Camino de Santiago 800 km across Portugal and Spain to France. People from all over the world travel this centuries old sacred route to the Santiago de Compastella church. One day I will return to cycle Africa....likely Tangiers to Alexandria .
I will miss the free wine fountain on the Camino in Estella Spain that dispenses free wine or water. Some people sleep here ! A sign reads: You will be pleased to find this fountain provides the thirsty pilgrims with red wine and water. If you want to reach Santiago “full of strength and vitality, have a drink of this great wine and make a toast to happiness”
