I was this month not not far from the equator, in the Caribbean, near Venezuela. I was having a picnic dinner on Curacao beach watching the beautiful sunset behind the mountains. But things went badly very fast. I saw a man drag a limp body onto the beach. Ran down as any firefighter, or paramedic, or many Canadians would to help. Asked how long he was in water his friend said about six minutes. No pulse, no respiration I could feel. Did head tilt, chin lift got other guy to hold him steady. Started CPR. Got a pulse within a minute. Got him into recovery position he spit out water, foamed at mouth started breathing. What a triumphant moment. Fire Dept does not respond to medical emergencies here. Too bad they would be way faster, ambulance took a very long time he would not have survived . A lady watching told me after we revived him that she was a Dr. I asked her to help. She told me she didnt want to get her shoes wet.
A very happy ending, this man lived tonight. Many images like this never leave first resonders. The man will never know who saved his life, but God will. A firefighter!

At the tree I planted on my dad's ashes ten years ago. Its so fine, strong and tall, like he was. I love visiting his tree at lost lake in the rocky mountains. He loved it here. Best dad ever. Rudy Sr.
